The cottage was lovely, warm, and very clean, and it’s in a great location. The views from the rooms are beautiful, and the house has all the amenities you could need. There was plenty of space for all of us (a party of six), and the fully equipped kitchen allowed us to cook whatever we wanted. I highly recommend staying here. Parking is available on the road and felt safe.
We have stayed many many times in Shaldon at a variety of cottages over the years, and we have our favourites of course. This year due to a last minute decision we chose Lighthouse Cottage and it was a revelation! We really weren't that familiar with this part of the village, except for our visits to the Botanic Gardens. We remember enjoying the view from the gardens and thinking "wouldn't it be lovely to live just there!" - noticing the row of houses just over the Botanics border fence. Well this was just that very cottage we spotted! Absolutely stunning views from the master bedroom especially - a little garden gate that leads directly onto the Botanic Gardens - a front patio with table and chairs and beautiful blooming Wisteria vine in May - an ingenious private garden that deals very well with the gradient of the hill the house sits on, even including a lovely glazed shed with plenty of outdoor summer furniture and kids games - shops of the village surprisingly close and the walk very quick and gentle from the north side of Broadlands. The cottage itself was very well presented in a nautical/lighthouse theme but not in an excessive way. Very clean and with everything you might need for your stay - even food basics in the cupboard like salt and pepper, tea bags, coffee and hot chocolate. A dishwasher and washing machine and wonderful bedrooms for any number of children! We had a really pleasant stay and the kids didn't want to go home! Clearly a new favourite and our choice of Shaldon cottages have now expanded in number - fantastic!
